Episode 66: Software as a First Class Research Output

Everyone in academia has heard the expression ‘publish or perish’. While not entirely true, publishing research is very important for an academic career.

But now some researchers will be able to use something else to move forward in a career in academia. Thanks to the efforts of ACEMS Chief Investigator Rob Hyndman, the School of Business at Monash University now recognises software as a first-class research output.

In this episode, we will explore the role of software in the research process, including both the opportunities and challenges for researchers creating it, and whether other universities might follow the Monash Business School's lead in recognising the importance of software.

Also joining us is Dr Tom Honeyman from the Australian Research Data Commons.

Our host is Dr Nick Tierney.
