Professor Hans De Sterck
Hans De Sterck is a Professor of Computational and Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. He did his PhD research at the University of Leuven, followed by postdocs and faculty positions at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Monash University. His research focuses on developing fast, accurate and scalable numerical methods for computational science and data science. He has made contributions to the areas of multigrid methods, numerical PDEs, and numerical optimisation, with applications in science and engineering. More recent research interests focus on models and algorithms for networks and data science, including algorithms for distributed big data analytics. Prof. De Sterck is a member of the senior editorial team of the SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, and is currently serving as Vice Chair of the SIAM activity group on Computational Science and Engineering.
