Top Spatial Awards for Cancer & Reef Projects

Two projects involving ACEMS researchers just picked up regional awards at the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards held in Brisbane.

The Survey and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) presents the awards to celebrate the achievements of top spatial information enterprises and individuals.

The Australian Cancer Atlas team won the regional award in Queensland for Spatial Enablement. The Virtual Reef Diver team won the regional award for People & Community.

The Cancer Atlas project is a collaboration between Cancer Council Queensland, Frontier SI, and QUT. ACEMS researchers at QUT provide their statistical expertise with the project.

Professor Peter Baade, a Senior Manager with Cancer Council Queensland, accepted the award for the team.  ACEMS team members from QUT include Distinguished Professor Kerrie Mengersen, Dr Susanna Cramb, and Dr Earl Duncan.

Virtual Reef Diver is a QUT-led project with multiple partners and stakeholders, including Frontier SI and ACEMS. ACEMS team members from QUT include Associate Professor Erin Peterson, Dr Julie Vercelloni, and Kerrie Mengersen. Dr Ross Brown from the Virtual Reef Diver team and QUT accepted the award on behalf of the team.

Both projects will now go on to be considered for the Oceanic Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards.
