Mathematical Playground

As part of its Outreach program, the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS) funded a project to build a “maths grid” play area at a Melbourne primary school. The grid was completed in 2015 at the Brunswick South-West Primary School in West Brunswick, VIC. The purpose of the project is to help teachers find new and creative ways to teach mathematics to their students, by getting students out of the classroom, and onto a play area where they will be more actively engaged in learning. In the video below, Prep 1-2 teachers Maurice Ryan and Chrissy Temple talk about how teachers are already using the grid to teach their students mathematics.
