ACEMS at the World Science Festival Brisbane

The World Science Festival Brisbane kicked off with a big maths event. 

Hundreds of people turned out for "The Language of the Universe: Can Mathematics Explain Everything?"

The panel was moderated by ACEMS Deputy Director Kerrie Mengersen (pictured left) and included (from left to right):

- Prof Brian Schmidt - Winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics, now Vice Chancellor & President of The Australian National University (ANU)
- Assoc Prof Clemency Montelle - School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and author of “Chasing Shadows-Mathematics, Astronomy, and the Early History of Eclipse Reckoning”
- Prof Nalini Joshi - Chair of Applied Mathematics at the University of Sydney and a Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellow.
- Prof Keith Devlin - co-founder and Executive Director of Stanford University’s H-STAR institute and a co-founder of the MediaX at Stanford research network

 

 

Earlier in the day, Clemency Montelle paid a visit to ACEMS at QUT, and shared her research into the history of mathematics with the ACEMS group. She is pictured left with Kerrie Mengersen.
