L'Oreal Girls in Science Forum

In November ACEMS AI Anthony Mays with University of Melbourne maths teacher Jennifer Palisse conducted two magic mathematics workshops at the L'Oreal Girls in Science Forum, held at the University of Melbourne. 70 high school girls from Melbourne and rural Victoria attended the event to learn magic tricks based in maths.

Anthony and Jennifer performed various card tricks that are reliant on mathematical principles and had the girls join in to learn the tricks with their very own set of ACEMS playing cards. The students then deconstructed the tricks to understand the mathematics behind them, and to develop new tricks of their own.
