Spatial point pattern analysis workshop – September 2018
Spatial data that take the form of a map of point locations are common in a wide range of scientific fields. Methods for analysing such data have developed tremendously over the past 25 years. However, workshops or courses to learn such analytical skills do not exist.
In September 2018, support from ACEMS made it possible to bring together three international experts to hold a three-day spatial point pattern analysis workshop at the University of Melbourne. This 3-day workshop covered many of the recently-developed methods, available in the R package spatstat and described in the book 'Spatial Point Patterns: Methodology and Applications with R' by Adrian Baddeley, Ege Rubak and Rolf Turner.
Instructors for the workshop included two of the authors of the key text book in this area, Prof. Adrian Baddeley from Curtin University in Western Australia and Prof. Rolf Turner from University of Auckland in New Zealand, and a third expert Dr. Tilman Davies from University of Otago in New Zealand. The workshop was attended by approximately 40 participants from diverse backgrounds, including academia, industry and government.
Workshop organisers received a great deal of positive feedback post-workshop and kindly thank ACEMS for their generous support which made it all possible.
